Facilitator
What does a facilitator do?
It means to engage people in a process to accomplish a purpose. This applies to many situations in our work and community lives. To facilitate effectively doesn't mean I have to be the subject matter expert. What I am an expert in is how to develop a process to accomplish a purpose, engage people in the process and keep them on task, and be astutely aware in refining the group process so things go smoothly. For over 25 years, I have served in the role as facilitator for a wide range of situations. Here are a just a few situations where I served in the role as facilitator: | ![]() |
- Meeting leader for a 12 member citizen advisory committee charged with making recommendations to a county Board of Supervisors as to the future of their county's care facility.
- Facililator for a state-wide steering committee to develop an Early Childhood Professional Development system.
- Co-planned diversity training for 350 employees for a bank and trained 10 employee facilitators to facilitate small dialogue groups in response to watching the movie "Crash."
- Conducted management retreats at senior care retirement communities to improve teamwork, set strategic goals, or to identify strategies in response to resident satisfaction survey results.
- Moderator for citizen discussion groups at school public forums on education issues.
